Moments

Some moments are like perfectly co-ordinated what-are-the-chances film sequences. Retold they meet with scepticism and claims of exaggerated story-telling, but they do happen. To me anyway.

I remember one such from a few years ago, when I was making a short documentary about the random brushing of shoulders and crossing of lives in a big city. I spent three days on the Berlin underground, following and occasionally approaching strangers. On the first day I talked with a man selling newspapers for the homeless. On the second, I stumbled upon him playing a slot machine in an underground snack bar at the opposite end of the city. On the third, I saw him again.

Serendipity caught me again in Edinburgh, and impressed me enough to feature it in a short, short story. I called it Bus Fare and you can read it here.
